How long to get a roundoff back handspring?

So should I just go for my back handspring? And how to not be afraid to do a roundoff back handspring.?

  • I've been in gymnastics since about hmm late September of 2009, I'm a bit of a slow learner so in about January i started connecting my roundoff back handspring with a spot of course. Then in about march or late February I started to get a pain in my ankles that were unbearable so i just started doing roundoff stop back handspring, and before the pain, i was almost gonna have it but i decided i needed to stay off my ankle for awhile until it got better because every time i went to gymnastics it just got worse and worse. So now it's July and all I'm doing is roundoff -stop- bhs. My ankle pains have went away and rarely come back ever, and my coach said she thinks I'm capable of doing a backhandspring by myself, but i don't know if i should. And I'm also afraid to start connecting my roundoff bhs again because my ankles might hurt. And I just need to know how I can get over the fear of doing it. Thankks sorry if it's confusing to understand. It's my favorite sport.
