When is the final torch lit during the Olympics?

• Is the torch always lit at the end of the opening ceremony or has there been other Olympic games where the final torch was lit at the beginning?

  I believe it is tradition to light it at the end of the opening ceremony. I know in every recent olympic competitions it has been lit at the end, but perhaps they have lit it at the beginning before.
