Does weight training affect body speed?

  • In the past I have used weights regularly in my workouts but I have recently taken up boxing and have read from some sources that weight training can be detrimental to overall speed in the ring. Does anybody know if this is true? Any help is appreciated

    Boxers used to think that lifting weights made them slow, but elite sprinters lift weights and they are very fast. It depends on the type of lifting and how much you lift. You can become stronger, and faster if you lift correctly.

Yes, the heavier you are the slower you get. My friend is the fastest kid at our school and hits weights but not that hard. He'll say "If I get too big I won't be as fast". Heavy lifting decrease flexibility.
