Is 14 too old to start figure-skating and win the Olympics?
-
I'm taking the SHSAT in October 29 (my birthday I'm turning 13) My parents promise me that if I get in they'll let me take figure-skating at Sky Rink( I live in NYC) Is it too late for me to go into the BIG competitions like the World Championships or the Olympics. I've always wanted to go figure-skating my whole life and I'm desperate. I've only ice skated once in my life but I was 10 or 11 and I learned how to just skate around with out falling. Please tell me what you think. Thank You SO much.

Nope, not at all! I'm taking the SHSAT for eigth this oct too at NYC! I'm aiming for stuy, if u and I got in, see u there!:) I would love to be ur friend. Well, u ever heard of talent? I'm sure u do, talent can be like the extra mile fuel on a race, if u really interested in it and is very talented, u will win no matter how other girls had trained or long they had. Just be flexible on confident, and also physically, so when u do go to sky rinks, u wouldn't have to do all those long terms workout on stretching, and waste time. But focus on SHSAT now. I'm interested in music, but my parent wanted me for stuy, but I don't think stuy Is too bad for extraculiars, cause they have tons of them. It's the determination, faith, and hard wrk will wins for u no matter what. I know people who came to America at fifth grade and still got in to stuy after learning only two years of English then those who didn't got in when they had knows English well and is their only language. Work hard and be flexible in mind when taking the SHSAT. Hope u do got in. I would love to heard from u if u got in or not, cause Im looking for a friend just like u who want to achieve something big and better than the other because they r determine . Again, hope to see u at stuy! We r the same age :) Jenny skyline

It will be hard to build up and get skilled quickly and compete with girls who have been skating their whole life, but if you set your mind to it and are as determined as you sound, I'm sure you could do anything you tried at. Don't get discouraged though, because it will be A LOT of work. Good luck and best wishes!

It is not too late. But it takes a lot of practice cause most of the girls have been training their whole life. I am 13 and a goalkeeper and have been for almost a year and with practice I got to compete on the Nordic Capital School Games (which is pretty big). So I say everything is possible and good luck :D
