What are limitations of using a gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer when testing athletes for drugs?

Should ahtletes be banned from competing if caught using "recreational" drugs?

  • The British Anti Doping Agency has called for a relaxing of the rules regarding the use of recreational drugs used by athletes. recreational means Cannabis and Cocaine. Currently the ban is two years yet the BADA wants the rules to be relaxed stating the current punishments to be tooo harsh. I find this astonishing that a Professional public body representing possible role models to young kids seems to think it a "lesser crime" to be caught using RDs. Ok maybe threes no performance benefit from taking said drugs surely theres the principle if drugs are bad illegal there should be no exceptions. I think if this change in the rules is voted through next month I believe this to be very bad form. What you say ?

  • Answer:

Unbelievable.....every person on that board should be removed. How can they give drugs the OK when they are illegal and are the killers of body and mind. BADA are ABAD lot. Yes life has it ups and downs and drugs doesn't help with life situations, also make ups higher and downs lower who wants that? DOWN WITH BADA... DOWN WITH BADA.

Nope; cannabis is virtually harmless and can actually be healthy for you- and cocaine-well, regardless of the health effects of any drug, drugs are a victimless crime.

They can use alcohol "recreationally", can't they, assuming of course that they are of legal age? Then what is the difference? They are not screened from any other possible legal infractions, so the fact that those RD's may be "illegal", is not the point. If an elite athlete can compete effectively after having used non-performance enhancing RD's, what business is it of the event's officials?

guess your the type of person that thinks the government should have cameras on every corner and every man women and child should be tracked just encase they might want to fire up a spiff or break some law that should never have come about in the first place as a free citizen we should control what we put in our bodies not the government

Given that even our prescription drugs these days have those similar ingredients in them... they should be suspended for the next competition but not a month or 2 years. Us track and field athletes train to hard to be punish for a recreational drug.
