Are the Pan American Games on TV?

Why does USA's media ignores the 2011 Pan American Games?

  • I haven't seen or heard any media coverage regarding the 2011 Pan American Games hosted in Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico.

  • Answer:

I've got two reasons: The American media almost exclusively focuses on the familiar. The big stories in sports now are the World Series, the NFL, college football, and NASCAR's season end. The Pan Am Games deserves some attention, but it hasn't gotten any in decades so it won't get any now. I realize it's unfair and it should compete with the young NHL season gets more eyeballs. It's a shame the NBA, whose only activity is negotiating, is receiving infinitely more coverage. The other reason is no corporation owns the Pan Am Games. Take the X Games or Outdoor Games. (Please!) These contrived events are silly and deserve slightly less scorn than pro wrestling. But they're wholly owned by ESPN, who gives them blanket coverage and an air of legitimacy. I'm sure if ESPN owned a piece of the action, it would be marketed as the premiere multi-sport event in the western hemisphere the year before the London Olympics. Find a way for an American media conglomerate to get rich off of them, and it'll be on your TV.

the talking heads in the network sports have no idea as to what the public wants to see. you can find the pan am games on cable but not the networks, and when the networks carry sports they screw them up with stories about the personal lives of everyone they think is important and don't cover events.
