Living in Canada vs USA?

Canada vs USA: How happy/sad were you when Canada won yesterday?

  • The USA is a much younger team with less experience and less talent, yet we went beyond everybody's expectations and almost beat Canada yesterday. We weren't even supposed to be in the finals, but then again, it's hard to beat the USA if we're committed to something. Yes, they played the best hockey and the better team won, but I was sad when Canada won. What's worse is I live in Vancouver (American student at UBC) and I had Canadian fans rubbing it in my face and many chanting "F--- the USA". What can ya do?

  • Answer:

I was really upset. The US team beat Canada once, and almost beat them twice. Only a silly coincidence prevented us from winning the deserved gold. Moreover screams outside 'we f... USA' or 'US gave us heads' were irritating

I was very proud. At the moment Crosby scored, I was just stunned. I felt for those guys who fought so hard the entire Olympics. I saw a Canada team who finally played up to their billing in this Olympic Games in the final game of the tournament. We were what Canada was supposed to be in these Olympics. Up until the final goal we were on top of the hockey world. I don't look at it as a loss at all. They had the puck last in Sudden Death and Crosby got it past our last line of defense. It was a blind shot, he even said so himself. Down 2-0 they never gave up. With 20 seconds left they never gave up. I am very proud of our guys who were never respected from the beginning. Unlike Canada and Russia, they had to earn it.

You gotta understand that we (Canadians) just like you (Americans) take pride in the things we believe in and the things we excel in. I commend you for being brave enough to tough the crowds that night! Hockey has always been kind of a BIG DEAL to us and to win against you, it just makes it that much better. Your team played a good game and I can speak for a million other Canadians when I say we watched the overtime holding our breaths. You put up a good fight but like you said "the better team won". Just be happy that you were able to enjoy the experience of being amongst the crowds for such an awesome event. I sure if US won, you still wouldn't have been a crowd favorite. But to answer your question: HELL YEAH I'm happy Canada won.

I was disappointed for Team USA, but I couldn't help but feel happy for Canada. Plus, it was an amazing finish to the game. The US tying the game with just 28 second left and sending it to sudden death overtime. That was incredible.

Well everyone seemed to say the US wasn't supposed to be in the final, but I always thought they were strong. The US team was a very strong team, they actually played as a team which is why they were where they were (also why the Russians lost, they played as individuals like usual). I was ecstatic when Canada won because I am a Canadian. The US team has nothing to be sad about though, they beat Canada pretty well in the round robin play, they definitely deserved to be in the gold medal game. Sorry to hear that the fans were so rude, but you have to understand Hockey is Canada's passion and we can get a little crazy about it sometimes. :)

I was happy for Canada, we tried but lost to a nation that is similar to ours[ and are our neighbors]. I was mad, never get upset about a loss in the finals we at least made it.

Obviously, I was thrilled Canada won. I have to correct some misconceptions from various people above: Yes, all members of Canada were NHL players. So were all members of the US team. Your point? Crosby scored to win the game, that one goal was NOT the defining point of the game, though. Canada had outplayed the US for most of the game, but COMPLETELY dropped the ball over the last 10 minutes of regulation. If they had continued to play at full capacity, the game would have never reached overtime. Their play for 50 minutes won the game, not Sidney Crosby (as he himself readily admits) The US played above the pre tournament predictions, but their presence in the final was thanks to one man. Without Ryan Miller in net, they would likely have been third or lower. But good teams play better if they know they have a game stealer in net. During the round robin game, Canada significantly outplayed the US, but Miller stole the game (and our goalie had an uncharacteristic off night). Canada did not get the gold because of a 'coincidence' Canada got the gold because we won the Gold Medal game. Does the US think that the Super Bowl winner wins by 'coincidence' even though they may have lost to the same team during the regular season? No, it's a tournament. Whoever qualifies for the gold medal game has equal right to claim the victory. Only a sore loser would say otherwise. Oh, and suggesting that the US would mop up in American football, as some sort of comparison to hockey n Canada? Nooo, that is not the same thing. Hockey is played in countries all over the world, and although Canada gave the game to the world, we do NOT expect that others will roll over on us. American Football, on the other hand, is played in one country only, probably always will be. Canada plays a similar but different game and would provide the ONLY possible competition. Hockey is a world sport, first played in Canada. Football is an American sport only. It will never reach the Olympics. Lastly, I would HOPE that whoever was taunting you over the victory was doing so in good fun. It was a hard fought game, but there is never any reason to taunt or call out the fans of the opponent, from EITHER side. We won this time, you'll win other times, and that's what sports are all about.

Mark you said it perfectly I was a little down when Crosby scored in ot. I watched the entire game and we were in most senses dominated by the Canadians. Even though all 23 members of Canada's team were members of NHL teams they deserved the gold. I however believe that neither our team or our fans should hang there heads. I for one am very proud of team USA we hung in with a heavily favored Canadian team and pushed them to the limit!! Not to mention took home a silver medal when most did not expect us to medal at all. Those men represented their country quite well. So I was not nearly as sad as I was when my cubs blew a 4-1 lead to the Florida Marlins in game 6 of the 2003 NLCS I cried like a 10 year old girl!! Oh and as far as their fans giving you **** ask them who one more total medals. Just wait till they make American Football an Olympic sport we will destroy every one

Sad for about 15 minutes then I got over it... My question for you is why do you live in Canada when you're american? Up your standards a lil bit!

It was a great game, Canada out played us and deserved to win, but me personally, I wished it could have been anyone else but Crosby. That hurt almost as much as when walker eliminated Boston last season . As far as the chanting f the USA, I gotta wonder what kind of puzzy's surround one guy in a bar and try to intimidate him. I would be willing to bet if it were an even fight they would have done the smart thing and kept quiet
