What are olympics medals made from?

Are the medals at the olympics actually made of gold, silver And bronze? or are they made from alloys?

  • Answer:

funnily enough we were reading up on that..it seems that the outer ring of the medal is made from gold, silver or bronze and the inner core is made from a high grade jade..so there is some gold ect in the medal just no the full medal

The Olympic medals are made from mostly gold, silver and bronze. However they also contain other elements as well. The gold and silver medals must contain at least 92.5% silver, and at least 6 grams of 24-carat gold must coat each gold medal. Bronze medals contain copper, zinc, tin and a very small amount of silver.
