How to do a ski jump?

How far (roughly) do the ski jumpers jump and how fast is the Luge?

  • I thought I heard recently that the ski-jumpers in the Olympics covered the length of 2 football fields (200 yards), and that the people doing the Luge went approximately 90mph - but now neither of those claims sound quite right to me (?).

  • Answer:

Ski Jumping: The world record for ski jumping is 186m (610ft) and was set by Mike Holland of Norwich, Vermont, United States in Plancia on March 15th 1985. Luge: It depends on the type of track and the person luging but the general suggestion is about 100 - 130kph.
