How do the Special Olympics figure skating rules differ from the traditional Olympics?

Figure skating olympics????? Please answer?

  • If I started figure skating at 13 years old, and had a lot of natural talent, as I am told, and was completing badges really quick, would I be able to ever be in the Olympics?

  • Answer:

Johnny Weir starting figure skating when he was 12. He was the National champion three times in a row 2005-2006, just won the Nats bronze medal last month and competed in the Olympics last year. He is clearly very naturally talented and he has a lot of things going for him that no only male figure skater in the world really can even hope to emulate right now. If you have a LOT of natural talent, and worked your butt off, skating every day with a top-level coach and seriously, seriously training for the Olympics, yes, you could maybe make it. But if you're in the United States and a ladies' singles skater, don't get your hopes up. Kimmie Meissner and Emily Hughes are shoo-ins for the next team, Mirai Nagasu and Caroline Zhang are beyond amazing on the junior circuit, and Sasha Cohen wants to come back for the 2010 games. Mirai and Caroline are your age (13) and are more likely than not going to win the silver and gold medals at the World Junior Championships next month - they are seriously THAT good. It's going to be hard for you. But I never say never.
