Horse back riding question!! Whats the difference between these two boots?

  • K so when u horse back ride, people wear these boots... http://www.equestriancollections.com/mmEQC/Images//eq/1771/full.jpg Or just regualr riding boots with half chaps like this... http://www.wychanger.com/shop/images/easyhalfchaps.jpg So whats the difference between them? THANKSSS :D

  • Answer:

Tall boots are usually reserved for showing ;-) I have some rubber tall boots for when it is raining and I would like to ride at home. It is safer than gumboots and I'm not getting my good leather jodhpur boots wet and muddy. They are a pain to get off, therefore are not practical for the day to day stuff and can get pretty hot and sweaty. Most people would not wear good leather tall boots with laces or zips in them around the paddock or stables ;-) I will be unpopular for this ;-) But I don't understand peoples obsession with half chaps. LOL I just use jodhpur boots and pull my jodhpurs down over them, now admittedly my legs are pretty short (5'2) so I don't have any problems with them sliding up. I actually think some of those half chaps rub and mark good dressage saddles. Unless you have really good ones that don't. Having said that they don't do any harm and it is personal choice ;-) I actually wear good leather work boots with lovely cushioned soles for everyday wear and then I have my nice leather riding boots in a boot bag. I keep them with my helmet bag and change boots just before I ride and then again after I dismount and have unsaddled, but before I hose the horse down. My very nice riding boots have lasted forever this way ;-) Good luck deciding ;-)

Usually people wear tall boots for horse shows. This means they cost more. Half chaps and riding boots are usually used to exersice your horse on regular days. They cost less.

The biggest difference between tall boots and half-chaps is the price. Tall boots can be expensive, and some people don't want to ruin the expensive tall boots they bought to show in, so they use half-chaps when practicing or exercising horses.
