Tips on learning an Aerial jump by myself?

What are some tips for learning to jump horses?

  • I am starting to jump horses and my i have a trainer but i was wondering if there was any other suggestions for things that would help me get started.

  • Answer:

1.) do tons of stirrupless work. It will build your thighs and help you keep your leg under you while in the air. after all, when you jump, you legs are absolutely everything! 2.) try trotting in two-point. A lot of the times when you land, especially at first, there will be rough transitions from two-point to posting/cantering. Trotting in two-point build both muscles and balance. 3.) jump lots of small crossrails to build confidence, not only for you, but for your horse. This will also get you in the habit of aiming for the center of a jump. 4.) practice cantering over ground poles. this will help you see your distances when you start to jump a little bigger. and for when you're not on a horse: 1.) when you're watching TV or something, do squats and sit- ups. this will build the muscles that lift you out of the saddle, and the cords in your back that help you maintain an excellent position in the air. 2.) get a yoga-ball and post on that. I know, it's silly, but it's unbelievable the difference that makes in two weeks. 3.) try sitting cross-legged on the same yoga ball when watching TV or reading. It will build balance and strengthen your core (and also give you some killer ab muscles). 4.) go on a run at least 4 times a week. building your cardiovascular fitness is crucial for any type of riding, but especially for riding. happy riding!! ~rain

Ask your trainer for some tips, there may be things that he or she can reccomend that you do outside of your lessons. I find that whatever horse related thing I am trying to learn I read a lot about it and watch the pros do it.

ok dont try to hard. let your horse jump up to you. dont look for a perfect distance, save that till you becoome more experienced. keep your eye up and make sure you can see the jump out of the bottem of your eye. make sure to count every stride, 1..2..1..2.. that helps alot. stay in a 2 point 5 strides out but dont lean over and dont lean to far back. your belly button shouldnt be infront of the top of the saddle. hope i helped.. good luck
