Where is the best place to buy western saddle's used?

  • looking for a western work saddle. daughter wants one for christmas. 16". where is the best place to buy one? new or used. not looking to pay alot as she is asking for a western bridle, splint boots, bell boots & a snaffle bridle. if you have any of the following or no where i can get these items, please let me know. thanks(:

    Ebay has a huge selection of used saddles. Also check Craigslist under the farm and garden section. The only other places to buy used would be any local tack stores near you, they often sell consignment saddles or you might have a used tack store near you. If you can't find any used, I suggest going to this website: http://www.statelinetack.com/ They have many saddles in all price ranges. many of the cheaper ones are synthetic, but really that just makes them easy to clean and harder to damage. when you search, make sure that the tab says price:lowest to highest or else they'll do it opposite and you see the expensive ones first, dont be fooled. Absolutely eBay.. but you may have you give your child an IOU because the real deals take time & patience. This is a tough time of year for both. Start by giving her the splints & bells.. you can slip the IOU for the bridle & saddle into the packaging and it'll give her something to look forward to in a few months. Having said that.. I bought a saddle six months ago from eBay that retailed in 1984 for $400. I paid $53 plus shipping. It was very dirty, moldy, and even had some green paint spatters on it, but it cleaned up really well and now is my favorite saddle. Of course, I knew exactly what I was looking for. I knew what makers used what types of tooling, and knew seat size, tree/ bar size and rigging. I knew I wanted a smooth seat, blevins buckles and a small skirt. Make sure you know all these things too before starting your hunt. Good luck.
