How do I get into a career in racing?

How would i get into auto racing for a career?

  Hi Dillon, This is the horse racing section, but since my son worked for Nascar until just last year, I think I may be able to help you. His last job with Nascar was with Chip Ganassi. He was one of the hundred that were layed off last July. The way he got started was he hung around our local race track since he was about thirteen-years-old. He started out by showing the local ARCA teams that he could be an asset to their team. He started out just sort of helping them until Jeremy Mayfield came along. He got on Jeremey's team, and when Jeremy went to work for Cale Yarborough, my son went with him. He worked for several different teams for sixteen years. He even won $10,000 in the pit crew contest. If you live near the Charlotte,N.C area (that is where most teams are based), you could start by visiting some of the Nascar shops. But I will warn you, they get over 300 applications per month, per team. It is very difficult to get hired on a team now because like the rest of the economy, Nascar is being hit pretty hard too, and hiring on any team right now is very scarce. In fact, many teams, just like Ganassi, are laying off, or have already had major cutbacks in their employees. My son worked on several different pit crews, and was run over in the pits in 2005, and was injured. He was the right front tire changer, and Ricky Rudd hit him. After that, he worked in the shop until last July when there was a massive lay off. But you could start by visiting some of the shops and getting your feelers out there. Good luck, to you and I hope you can find a team that will hire you. But you really do have to know your stuff, and prove it to them.
