How to break a horse?

How do i train and break a horse?

  • i live in southern california, im 17 and new to horses. i help my friends dad at his ranch and i ride em and well, take care of em. but i do not know how to train a horse or break when your saddled up. like in pt. 1 of lonesome dove when woodrow tames his horse. so, any help please?

    Hey, mike! Well, i hate to be rude, but i hate it when people ask this question. There are people that have been riding at the olympic level for 10 or more years who can't break a horse, so i hate to see inexperienced people try. They will just end up ruining a fine horse, and probably getting hurt. I suggest spending a lot of time around experienced horses and horsepeople for at least five years before you even THINK about breaking a foal.

I spent a lot of time breaking 2yo TBs in ocala Fla a good few yrs back and just from the sound of your question I would say you need a bit more exp. before giving it a try.The best thing to do is learn from someone who has exp.and listen carefully to what they say and dont be in a rush your 17 and have a lot of time before you bust your backside.Good luck and have fun.
