Your stakes should be 40 ft. apart. The backboard should be 1 ft. behind the stake and 3ft long. The side boards should be 4- 5 ft. You will need 6 pieces of lumber to make the border for the pit..however, the border is only optional, I have a border-less pit...having one does help keep sand in place.
