Help with horseback riding fall?
-
Help with horseback riding fall? Yesterday while riding...I had just finished cantering about 3 times in a row.. My instructor told me to give my horse a loose rein. So, really, i had no control. Someone at the barn was working with wheel barrows and clanged them against something. My horse spooked, grabbed the reins from me and took off. While he was running away, i flew off his back extremely fast and landed on mine. I immediately got back up, but my lower back/butt area hurt like hell. I asked the instructor if i could kneel for a while, and she let me, then i was told to get back up. I walked over to the fence with her and waited while she got me ice. My eye-sight started going dark and i thought i was going blind, but apparently i fainted. Yes, i went to the doctor right away. It was confirmed i have no concussion. And i may have to get x-rays tomorrow (Monday). My parent's don't think it's that severe. But I believe it is. I can't just let something go untreated! something could go wrong....It hurts to sit and stand...ESPECIALLY walk up stairs. Now, i have sore tenderness around my right lower back - but no bruise...so i'm kind of worried. Also, the pain has traveled up my spine, and moved to my shoulder blades, shoulders, neck, and arm muscles. Could this be something serious? Should i go through with x-rays tomorrow? Feel free to share your own falling stories, and what you did afterwards (: thanks.

Good to get x-rays. I've had my share of falls, trust me :) But to be honest, what you're feeling sounds like a typical fall. I don't want to say I know 100% you're going to be fine (since I don't know you and I didn't see the fall, AND i'm not a doctor.) But sometimes you won't even see bruising until a couple days. And trust me, the pain will spread all over. And when you move. I fell off my mare going down a hill (dumb fall, it was like slow motion falling off) my hip hurt for days after word, it'd hurt with stairs, sitting down, walking you name it. But I was fine (coming from a Chiropractor and doctor) and my pain was normal. It will be tender for a while :) You probably just bruised a bone or something that always hurts the worst with little to show for it. I don't mean to sound mean either but there is a difference between dropping your reins and loosing control then giving your horse his face/loosening reins. But you'll learn that in time :) Best of luck!!! (PS. if you repost this in Pets > Horses you'll get a lot more answers, that's where the big horsey community is :))

You are probably just very sore, an have some minor whiplash. I ride bareback, and bridleless and recently got thrown off I'm a fast gallop and landed on my lower spine and, I could not breathe and they were unable to move me. The fact you got up is a good sign, there is probably no fractures, probably just sprains, strains, soreness, and bone bruises! If it is still bothering you in a few days than you may want to have a x-ray.
