What is 5-wide racing?

Please help greyhound racing dogs.Im a complete newbie and need some advice please.Uk dog racing?

• Hi ive purchased 2 racing dogs.im completely new to racing and have so far sent my dogs to a racing greyhound trainer in romford.Basicily i havnt seen my dogs race yet.There both 16 months old and born 9 days apart.One of my dogs had a trial at yarmouth racing track and failed by .3 of a second.his time was 24.83 and it needed to be 24.80 to quailify on that track.Ive heard thats a a7 track??? i dont understand what a1 ----> a10 stands for at the tracks.ive been told my dog would quailify for henlow no probs.My other dog passed his trail at the same track so would that make him a a7 dog?Basicily i need somebody who noes about greyhound racing in the uk to give me a few pointers.like explain what the diffrent grades mean.how i get my dog higher lower.Diffrent grades on diffrent tracks.Also for a 16 month old dog is 24.83 a okish time to run as ive heard they perform best around 2 and a half.I no race dogs can race at a min of 15 months but have heard most dont quailify untill 2 years or just under.Is this true?Any help or advice would be great and ill get best answer and as many stars as i can to who ever explains the best.Thanks ........ mike

  My advice would be to take your two dogs home and care for them as companion animals rather than subject them to a kennel life of imprisonment, where they will receive virtually no affection and only be let out once a week to be raced on a dangerous track - risking life and limb. If you don't even know the basics of grading and your trainer hasn't had the time to tell you - then I am concerned as to whether you have been advised of your full financial responsibility towards your dogs and the cost of veterinary care. EDIT - I did answer the question - you just didnt read what I said. SPEAK TO YOUR TRAINER! As regards your comment about most not qualifying until the age of 2 - may I correct you please. Two young greyhounds have just been destroyed at Belle Vue BEFORE they even reached the age of two. Afflecks Palace and Greylag Sophie Rest in Peace sweethearts...X
