What is the lightest/best hiking boot or shoe?

The best horseback riding and hiking boot?

  • Hi there, this summer I am going to be horseback riding across Mongolia. I am looking for a comfortable shoe that I can basically live in for the entire trip and it should be good for extensive walking and riding. After doing a little research, what I think I'm looking for is something with a sturdy toe and a small heel with slight tracks and it should cover my ankles and maybe a leather boot. Though I'm open to suggestions. If you have any brands or styles to recommend, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I have Ariat Heritage Lacer Boots. It has a short block rubber heel and leather upper. They are very comfortable boots both for riding and walking.

The Ariat Terrain is a good boot. It looks a lot like a hiking boot, with a padded collar and rubber toe rand. However, it has a block heel for riding and stirrup rests. There is also a waterproof version, the Terrain H2O. The Terrain runs big. Get a half-size smaller than you normally would. I usually wear an 8-1/2, but bought 8's in the Terrain. I have room for socks. Mountain Horse makes a couple of hiking-style riding boots: the Peak paddock boot and the Outback Rider. I don't know anythng more about them. You might go to the Dover Catalog website and read the customer reviews. Have a fabulous time on your trip!

Ariats are nice but you have to make sure they fit, dublins work as well
