How to choose snowboarding equipment?

Snowboarding Equipment?

  • Im flying from London to Salzburg in Dec this year. Ive never been snowboarding before and not sure of the most cost effective way to do it. Is it better to hire or buy 2nd hand? Should I get the gear in London or when I arrive in Austria? I doubt I will use the equipment after this trip. Thanks!

    If it is your first time snowboarding and you are only going for a week then hire. If you are staying longer then it might be worth buying. You might find some cheap deals in London. It probably would be cheaper in Austria. Italy or the Pyrenees tend to be very cheap for ski/snowboard equipment. France tends to have a good range, and is cheaper than UK. If you have been skiing before then you will have most of the kit required. My skis were made in Austria.

I would hire the snowboard in Austria. If you do not believe you will ever use it again, this is your best option. You do not want to hire in London because you will have to drag it on the plane and many things could happen (lost, broken, etc.). In addition, if you are going to a resort, most of them have equipment areas which hire out different levels of equipment that are great for that area.

You shouldnt buy unless you know what size board to get...most people rent boards to try it out first...They have rentals in every ski resort usually...Have fun!

If piobosible i would try to rent but if you can't buy second hand. I don't think that i would rent in london i would wait or eles you would have to drage it all home plobly wet. so i would look for a place to rent cloes to were you are going to snowboard. Have fun. :)

Edge to Edge in Crawley (near Gawick Airport) sell second hand boards, but your best bet is to hire one first. They'll give you good advice on suitable equipment and can arrange for you to collect/drop off your gear at the airport your flying from. www.edge2edge.co.uk
