What do French people think of Nicholas Sarkozy?

Why is President Sarkozy a monarch in Andorra?

  • This is really weird why is the President of France, head of government in Andorra, I mean its not that a foreign person is a head of state of another country is what surprises me, because you know this is common in the commonwealth where Queen Elizabeth 2, is the head of state of 16 countries. But what surprises more is that Sarkozy is considered to be a monarch?, more specifically a co-Prince... I mean this got to be an insult to the french people because they adore they're little revolution so much and they really embrace they're republic... I just think its weird, President then monarch.. So my question is what socio historical event happened so that A spaniard and a french president can rule this tiny nation.. thanks

  • Answer:

This goes back to a 17th-century edict establishing whoever happened to be the French head of state as the co-prince. At the time, the head of state was the French king, of course, but now it's the President of France.
