What are differences between charismatic leadership and transformational leadership?

  They are similar in that it is unlikely that a Leader can effect "transformation of a culture" without a lot of charisma. Although not explicitely said, most people think of "transformation" as transforming to something "better". ------------------- Charisma can be likeability, personal magnetism, charm, etc. But the word by itself may not necessarily connotate something positive. There have been a lot of people that Charisma is seen as something terrible and self serving. Adolf Hitler could be very charismatic and compelling. "Jim Jones" who led his people to mass suicide was very charismatic. Some of the most evil people in history were extremely sincere and very charismatic. ---------- Both "Bill Clinton" and "George W Bush" were very charismatic. But Clinton was seen as using his charisma for casual sex, and predatory sexual behaviour. George Bush often seemed to use charisma to make up for "lack of intelligence". ---------- Although George W. Bush is not very popular, he personally has a very strong belief system, and he is a genuinely charming man. IMHO it was his choice of policies, and his inability to communicate that were the problem, not his lack of charisma.
