How To Create Your Own Coat Of Arms?

Are the Coat of Arms of the House of Windsor same as the Royal Coat of Arms of United Kingdom and the Queen?

  • Are the Coat of Arms of the Royal House of Windsor the same as the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom and Arms of Dominion of the Queen? I know there are separate Royal Coats of arms for Scotland, individual members of the Royal Family, etc. What I am curious of is Royal Coat of Arms considered the Coat of Arms of the House of Windsor, or is there a specific coat of arms for the Royal House of Windsor.

  • Answer:

The Queen has coats of arms in each of her Realms; these arms are also sometimes used by government agencies or ministries to symbolise the Crown. In the UK, they are known as the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. Every British monarch has used these arms since the reign of Queen Victoria. A separate Royal Arms exists, for use in Scotland, which gives priority to Scottish elements and features the insignia of the Order of the Thistle. The Royal Coat of Arms of Canada has been used by each monarch of Canada since George V; it is based on the British Royal Arms but contains unique Canadian elements. The Queen also has Arms for use as sovereign of Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Each of these is different from the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. Here is a depiction and explanation of it http://www.britroyals.com/arms.htm Now, the coat of arms of the 'windsors' is the same as the royal coat of arms. See, the windsors were actually the sax-coburgh-gotha so, that coat of arms would have been the family one, and right now if you only take into consideration aganitc (male line) inheritance then they would have the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg coat of arms. So, there you go... the house of windsor right now is inseperable from the crown of the united kingdom, therefore they share their coat of amrs. Each member does have different ones depending on personnal preferences and the Queens decision, who as fountain of honors has the ultimate decission.
