What is the railway identity card?how to apply for it?

What does Prince Charles think of the current state of british railway carriages? Are they not a carbuncle?

  • I was in a railway carriage recently and I was saddened to see the hideous state our trains are in here in Britain. In my day, the carriages were a lovely maroon colour and had gold lettering, and they had seperate compartments each with their own door to the outside and a little corridor connecting them on the side as well. Now we have these ugly, UGLY American/French-style trains were everyone is facing forward like on an aeroplane. I used to like sitting facing backward to see where I had been, now I have no choice but to face forward and be lurched out of my seat every time the train comes to a stop. We are all packed in like sardines and there is no incentive to form traveling companions as there is only ever one other person next to you in a position to have a conversation (and it is always some chav or Pakistani person, neither of whom can speak English). To make matters worse the outside of the carriages look like a tin of sardines, as if to foreshadow the interiors which are exactly what they feel like. Has Prince Charles ever weighed in on this matter? I know he is an ardent believer in traditional architecture for buildings - but what about trains? Could he not use his influence to bring back those romantic railway carriages of yore? Those quintessentially British carriages that when one sees an Agatha Christie film, are used to set up the scene as taking place in Britain - so analogous are they with our identity? The little isolated carriages represent our little isolated nation, close enough to Europe to have a nice little holiday once in a while - but still far enough away to where we can retreat if need be when they start to act too "foreign." I'd like to know if Prince Charles has any opinion on the matter and is there a link where I can hear his views? I know he was very vocal about the museum when they tried to modernise it like they did the Louvre - that monstrous "carbuncle" as Prince Charles described it.

  • Answer:

Yes, indeed, dear Pooch. One feels these carriages are simply a monstrous carbuncle, as you so rightly put it. One shall do everything within one's power to return to the days when our railway carriages epitomised the very best of Britain. To correct the previous posters, I have - er, one has had the pleasure of riding in public transport, with the potential rash averted by means of specially designed rubber pants designed specifically for the occasion. As to the second poster's remark about how long one would take to answer, you may notice that this is stated just under my reply in rather small print. Cheerio!

Surely you realise that HRH never sees the inside of public transport? He would get a rash from sitting on a seat where one of his subjects had sat.

Correct me if I'm wrong ,but aren't you the contributor who "bollocks " and reports people for asking questions on subjects that aren't Royal ? If so ,what makes you so special that you can ask IRRELEVANT questions on something that's not Royal...............and NO I don't report ! @ So how long are you to wait for the Prince to answer your question through this forum then ? An hour or perhaps a day or two ,get real pal ,admit it, YOU are wrong ! No more "school Ma'am performances out of you ,thank you very much ,NOT reported
