How do Unemployment extensions work?

Unemployment Extension Question 2010?

  • I was laid off from my job and was force to go on unemployment. Well I wasn't forced, I was just unable to find a job. Being on unemployment is terrible, only thing that really saved me is I took extra classes during my spring semester while I was out of work looking for work. Coming to the end of my semester I find myself in a wicked situation because my benefits were planning to end. After having a few successful interviews I didn't worry about unemployment because I thought I'd be employed. Well now its June and I'm still out of work and my unemployment ended. This was the first time I've been unemployed. A year ago I EAS out of the Marine Corps. Found a job worked 6 months and was laid off. I keep hearing things about these extensions not being approved..all this weird stuff. I'm not trying to beat the system I just want to know if they'll automatic renew my unemployment. (My last claim form stated that. Hopefully i'm approved) This will be my first extension. If not I just plan to forget school and looking for a job and enter the military again. I'm sure I can call and I plan to do so after this weekend. I have to wait 10 days to get my results. I just figured I'd ask the yahoo community. Maybe someone is going through the same thing.

  • Answer:

Most likely you're eligible for the extension - your circumstances are typical to meet the requirement - just make sure you get those job interviews recorded as this is the requirement to still be eligible.

Okay I have been unemployed since 2009 and my end year date ended 5/29/2010. I live in virginia and have exhausted my tier 1,2,3. So the process is to reapply for unemployment again it will be a new claim after your end date. Submit the paperwork online or in person. Then depending on your state (why) because each state has their own tier level according to your unemployment rate in your state. It has to be a certain percentage. Then they have what you call EB benefits that you can apply for. But if you are approved for eb benefits they will not pay you for straight unemployment. Sounds confusing I just went through it. Best of luck on finding employment & school hope this somewhat helps.
