What taxes do I have to charge on my website?

Filing Taxes Twice?????

  • I know it's alot to read, but it explains my situation My professor at school offered to do our taxes for $25 if anyone was interested. Well, I had never had my taxes done electronically so I asked her to do my taxes. She said yes.She said she normaly charges $125 but since I was her student she'd charge me $25.I gave her a copy of my w-2, date of birth, job title, etc. She told me she was doing my taxes through Turbo Tax.This was in Feb 09. She called me at work and told me she had submitted my taxes. She sent me an email with a copy of the paperwork for my records. When I received the copy of everything for my records, I though she had did them.So I mailed her a check for $25.She told me I would receive a direct deposit in 8-10 days. A month went by, no deposit into my account. With the copy she gave me I verified my account number and routing number. Those numbers were correct. Within this month, I called, called and called leaving messages asking her to call me with information concerning my taxes. She never returned any of my calls to this day. I also sent her e-mails asking her to call me, she never responded back. I went to the irs website and clicked on "wheres my refund" there was no record on file for me. I went to the Turbo Tax website and typed in my information, there was no information on file for me. I called the IRS they said there was no information on file for me for the year 2008. Mind you I've never done my taxes before. My dad has always done my taxes for me (paper form) but I wanted to try the electronic filing, my professor offered, I felt like I could trust her. The IRS representative told me I should contact my professor because they had no information on me and had not received anything from Turbo Tax to process. I called my aunt and explained the siutation to her. She was like something is not right about this and I totally agreed with her. So I asked her should I file them again because I don't know what to do. So I went to my aunts house and she filed them through Turbo Tax. She said that's what she used to do her taxes and she r/c her refund in less than 10 days. Before leaving my aunts house, I checked my e-mail account. I r/c a confirmation e-mail from Turbo Tax concerning my taxes. I told my aunt that I never received an e-mail from Turbo Tax when my professor did my taxes. Very strange. A couple of days later, I received an e-mail from Turbo Tax letting me know the my state return was accepted and then a couple of days later I received another e-mail letter me know my federal return was accepted. When my professor did my taxes I never received an e-mail confirming that my state and federal return had been received. On April 1,2009 I received my state return. It was direct deposit into my account. Mind you my aunt did my taxes on 3/21/09. However, I have yet to r/c my federal return. So today, I called the IRS to chk on the status. (Something I forgot to mention early, when my professor did my taxes, I was in the process of moving so I gave her my current address at the time. I moved on 3/15/09 and my aunt did my taxes on 3/21/09, so when my aunt did my taxes on Turbo Tax she put my new and current address in) Well, today when I spoke with the IRS of course the rep asked me to verify certain information. She asked me to verify my address, I told her my new address. She said what the address you used when you filed I repeated my new address, I said however I use to stay at (and told her my old address). So this thing has me wondering. Do you think my professor finally processed my taxes? Because why is my old address on file and not my new address? Something is not right. Am I wrong for getting my aunt to file my taxes since I waited over a month and never received a deposit from when my professor did my taxes? The rep also told me there is a delay in processing my federal refund due to a "unprocessable condition" she said that there was a problem due to some data possibly being inputed incorrectly but she couldn't tell me specifically what the error was because she didn't know. She said it would take 4-6 weeks for them to figure out the error. If it's something they can fix they will process the return if not she said someone would give me a call. I know for sure my aunt put my new address when she filed so why was my old address in the system. I just don't know. Could someone please give me some advise.

  • Answer:

Wow, forgot what i read by the time i got to the end. the reason IRS has your old address is because they have not finished processing your tax return so the entity has not been updated. Any time you change your address you should contact IRS with your new address by calling or by mailing Form 8822 Change of Address with the IRS.

If there were 2 returns filed with 2 different addresses they will review both returns and send you the correct returns refund or send you a notice of moneys due. They may contact you again to verify which address your using and may ask why 2 returns were filed.Tell them you checked after the first return was filed and there was no record of it.There is no penalty for refiling.Or in other words filing twice. It just takes longer to get your return because they have to audit both returns.
