What is the best company in NJ to work for?

I live in WV and actually work in WV but the company I work for is out of NJ. I get WV and NJ state taxes with?

  • held from my pay check each week. I filed my taxes earlier this year and filed a 1040A for WV and a 1040NR for NJ. Now someone mentioned to me that I shouldn't even have NJ taxes withheld because I do not work in NJ. Is that correct. Or am I doing the right thing. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Answer:

That is correct. You should not be having NJ tax withheld. The company's head office location does not determine your tax liability. Your work location and residence do. Contact your payroll office.

The NR is a Non Resident return and chances are, everything you withheld for NJ was returned to you. If you do not live OR work in NJ then there is no reason that they should be withholding NJ tax.

You did the work in NJ, so it's NJ-source income, so yes, you had to file in NJ.
