Best online shoes store in the UK?

Would I have to pay taxes if I bought shoes online from another country?

  • I saw a pair of Shape up shoes online from one of an American department stores they also ship to the UK you can get the exact same shoes in the UK but the price difference between the shoes in the US and the UK is about £40 if I ordered a pair of Shape Ups shoes from that department store in the US would I have to pay import taxes on the shoes? I can get the shoes here in the UK for £80 and the price from the US is about £40 I know I would have to pay for shipping and handling so I would be saving about £30. What is the law when it comes to buying goods over the internet via department stores like Neiman marcus or Bloomingdales or other stores.

  • Answer:

As with any imported purchase, you will pay Customs Duties and a VAT Tax. I would suggest calculating these two items and see how much money you save vs just buying them in the UK. The amounts for the Duties and the VAT will be percentages.
