Taxation without representation?

  • Why did the American colonists feel they had “taxation without representation?”

  • Answer:

Because the people who supposedly represented them in legislative procedings ingnored them and did as they pleased, when they pleased and etc. Sort of like the way the talking heads in DC are treating the working taxpayers today.

The colonists were required to pay taxes to the British government but they had no representation in the British Parliament.

The Colonies had no Ministers at Parliament. If old King George had half a brain, he'd have given them a few and that would have largely shut them up. Nothing would have changed, but the colonials would have been happy. And we'd probably be driving on the left and drinking warmish ales and singing God Save the Queen at Football (as in Soccer) matches and cricket tests to this day.
