How to file tax extensions?

I didn't file my taxes last year & I think my ex-employer was committing fraud. What should I do?

  • I had taxes taken out of my check but I was unable to file my taxes. I tried to do it on Turbo-Tax but it said that the employer ID was wrong, we double checked it and it was right but now I can't get a hold of that employer. I think they were doing something fishy, the owner of the bar is a real sleaze-ball. I had to file two extensions because they never sent my w-2 to me and it took them forever to get it to me! What should I do this year?

    Just file the 2007 return now. Mail it in on paper forms. The IRS will deal with any EIN discrepancy.

You should have done it on paper nad submitted it. I would submit it immediately.

Contact the IRA directly, and request copies of your W-2's from them. If the guy never actually submitted anything to the IRS in the first place (i.e., they show no records of earnings reported under your SS for that year), then they were committing fraud. Not sure where you would go from there - but maybe cross THAT bridge if and when you come to it.

File 2007 before attempting to file 2008 taxes, if the 2007 taxes are not filed and you file 2008 and you are due a refund IRS will not issue the refund until you have filed all your tax returns. IRS has a new program "Refund Hold" and will not release the refund until the returns are received and processed. processing time for 2007 and prior take up to 12 weeks. You can also contact IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to request the W2 from them to file your 2007 tax return, or download form 4506-T to and send to appropriate address or visit you local IRS office. You must mail your 2007 tax return to IRS it can't be e-filed.
