Do I get a tax deduction for legal fees?
-
I got divorced last year and paid for all the legal fees totaling about 3000. Do you get a deduction for that? I seem to remember (or want to remember) someone saying something about it. I live in Ohio if this makes a difference.

Answer:
You can only deduct legal fees if it had something to do with your finances. For instance, you can deduct fees for estate or trust planning. You can deduct fees incurred due to an IRS audit, etc. But a divorce doesn't count. Sorry. :0(
