Are taxes higher in PA or OH?

After moving from PA to NJ my PA state taxe were still being taken out as well as the NJ taxes.?

  • after moving from PA to NJ i noticed on my pay check that the PA state tax were still being taken out, as well as the NJ taxes. what form. after my HR finally for a chance to call them they changed it to NJ only, but what about that Money that they owe me from PA? What form will I need? I also moved to SC, and the same thing happened there.

  • Answer:

Agree with Judy with one caveat. As long as the payroll system was deducting PA income taxes, it was considering the income as earned in PA. Accordingly your PA W-2 will show that as PA income. To not pay PA because the income was earned while in NJ, you will have to either get the W-2 changed or deduct on your PA return the income you feel was over reported as PA income. Once corrected you will get the over withheld amount as part of a PA refund.

You'll file a part-year resident form for PA state taxes, showing just what you made before you moved. If you overpaid, you'll get a refund.
