Tax refund Direct Deposit?

Tax Refund IRS Direct Deposit Situation - Please Read ;)?

  • I am married but my husband and I file seperately. I filed my taxes on Jan 14th through expresstaxrefund.com just as last year - my refund was accepted by the IRS on Jan 17th - and my refund was direct deposited onto my prepaid Vision Premier card on Jan 30th (12pm my time because the bank is based in San Deigo which is 3 hours behind. The Where's My Refund tool said that my refund would be deposited by Feb 3rd but according to express tax refund.com I was guaranteed by the 30th -so I did get it. Well my husband filed on Jan 31st, IRS accepted it on 02/01 and it is saying that his refund is processing and if there are no mistakes or errors he should receive his refund by Feb 17th - he also filed through expresstaxrefund and is promised to be deposited this coming Friday the 13th via same prepaid Visa. But I have been reading a lot on here about delays and I am worried - Please advise if you received it on time or if you had problems. Thanks so much!

  • Answer:

The IRS sends out refunds on Fridays. The date that is given on wmr is a "you should receive your refund by" date. You were given a should receive date of 2/3 to allow your bank processing time or allow the postal office time to deliver. The message that you're husband is seeing is what we all see at one point or another so I do not believe that there is reason for worry at this point. From reading so many other posts I believe that the irs updates the wmr on late Wednesday evenings/early Thursday mornings. Check the wmr again on 2/12 and it should have updated by then. Yes there are many people that have had their refund expectant dates changed, some changed a couple of times and some even a few times. Most dates have changed delaying ones refund a week but there are a few of us that had our dates pushed a couple or a few weeks (I e-filed 1/16 and not due to get refund till 2/24 according to wmr). Hang in there. Check the wmr on 2/12 and take it from there.

The IRS gives refunds every Friday, but it's projections are for the Tuesday after (I don't know why, but thats how they work). The delays everyone is worried about haven't actually happened yet; I just received my refund two days ago, and my friend did as well. The delays are going to happen when April 15th draws near, and the majority of people file their taxes at the same time.

"Don't count your chickens before they're hatched..." If you are relying on a tax refund to run your life's finances, something is seriously amiss! Getting a refund means you did your taxes wrong a year ago, and opted to have more money withheld from your paychecks than you were going to owe...effectively you made an "interest-free" loan to the IRS.

And you care about your husband's MFS return? The only obvious delay would be if you took the itemized deduction on your MFS return and he tries to claim the standard deduction....

I sure hope you are both filing Married Filing Separately and not using some other status, which is against the law.
