Where can I adopt an African Grey in MD?

MD and VA Tax Preparers or CPAs Please answer this one!!!! HELP?

  • I have asked this question before and received varying answers. Here is my Situation: I lived in VA and had a VA job.Last Sept I got married and moved in with my Spouse who has always been a MD resident and has a MD job. Once I moved my job took notice of my change of adress change and deducted MD taxes. I have a question about the state filing. I know that for Federal we can file jointly: no problem. How do we file state? I have tried to file MD married joinlty part year resident and that form is fine. What about my VA filing? When I try to file a part year married jointly for VA they want to know the dates that I lived in the state and the dates my spouse lived in VA, which is never. Do I leave that question blank? Or,Do we do MFJ for MD part yearand I do MFS VA part year Or, should MY SPOUSE just do MFS MD and MYSELF do MFS MD **and** MFS VA?? Is that allowed? Please answer only if u know..I cant afford proffesional I'm tryin 2 do this myself. Thanks questions? sati021@yahoo.

  • Answer:

If I were you Id file: -federal - MFJ -VA - MFS - part-year resident (Form 760PY) http://www.tax.virginia.gov/site.cfm?alias=indforms&selYear=2006 -MD - MFS - part-year resident (Form 502) http://individuals.marylandtaxes.com/incometax/partyear.asp http://forms.marylandtaxes.com/current_forms/residentbook.pdf Your husband will file a MD tax return - MFS as a resident You should have received two W-2s for the different states. You will need to report total wages on your VA tax return, since you worked in VA for the entire year. You will report only the wages earned in MD on your MD part-year resident return. Your job should still be withholding VA taxes from your wages. As long as you work in VA you will need to file a VA tax return and will owe VA tax.

For federal tax purposes you can file a joint return as long as you are married by 12/31 of that year. When you file a joint return you are deemed one person for tax purposes. Most states inherit the same rule for their state. You should confirm with Virginia but, regardless of the fact that he never lived there, you can file a joint return for Virginia. You should file joint returns to all 3 jurisdictions and for the Virginia partial year return use the dates you lived there.
