What is the best company in NJ to work for?

NYC/NJ Tax Issue - Live/Work in NYC but work for a NJ based company but they are charging me NJ taxes!?

• Hello, Here is the problem. I work for a company that is based in New Jersey. However, I live in NYC and am currently working for this company in NYC. However, they are taxing me as a New Jersey employee. I was told that "you are taxed for where you sit." For example, even if you work for Microsoft which is a Washington based company, but work for Microsoft in New York, you are taxed only for New York. I have been back and forth with my HR and they don't seem to get it. I was under the understanding that you are taxed for the state in which you work. Could someone please tell me if this is correct AND most importantly where I can find this IN WRITING!!! Thank You!!!

  You are correct. I would suspect that your employer is attempting to avoid filing in NY and paying any of their share of those payroll taxes in NY and NYC. Call the state of NY a 1-800-225-5829 and they should be able to give you the proper authority under NY tax codes.
