i lived in montana most of the year and then moved to arizona in september which do i file in?

Answer:
You should file as a part year resident of each state and pay any tax due on income earned in that state. Typically you will receive credit for tax paid to another state by the state in which you curently live.

Both, one as a resident and one as a non-resident: You will get a credit from the one that you are a permanent resident of for taxes paid to the one that you are not a permanent resident of.

You'll file one federal return showing your current address, and file two state returns. one in Montana and one in Arizona.

Both. You must file a part-year return for any state where you lived part, but not all, of the year.
