How to file state taxes while W-2 from two states (different employer?

Lived in two states in 2009 how do i file taxes with turbo tax.?

  • I lived in north dakota for about 4 mounths working, and then i moved to minnesota and work. how should i file my state taxes. i now i will have to pay into north dakota state taxes because my emplyer didnt tax out state taxes. does any one know how to do this with turbo tax. also is there anything specail i need to know about filling in two differant states. and i have been living with my girrlfriend for 7 mounths and i have been paying all the bills is there any way i can claim head of house hold. thanks.

    When you start doing your taxes, turbo tax should ask you about your state residency. Make sure that you put in that you lived in 2 different states last year and the dates you lived in each. From there, turbo tax should walk you through filing both state returns. As for head of household, paying all the bills does not by itself qualify you for that filing status. See Publication 501 on the IRS website for the rules on filing statuses.
