How to file state taxes while W-2 from two states (different employer?

I have two state taxes on my W2 - do I file both?

  • Hi, I have lived in two states in 2009. I've lived in MA for about half year and then moved to VA for a new job. On my W2, I have a dilemma. I have amounts of $776.45 for MA state tax and $817.37 for VA. What do I do? Do I file part-time resident state tax for both state? I hear that I can disregard one of state and just file for the other. I'm not sure what's the best way to go. Can any tax-wiz advise me on this situation? Thanks! Josh

  • Answer:

Part time both states is how you file No you can not disregard a state. Each state has a record of you earning money and expect a return from you
