How much have you made on CafePress?

Canadian income tax, where do you list income made from off the net?

  • I made about 40 bucks online (cafepress). I just did it for fun, now i'm worrying about if i have to add that money to my income tax. If i do, what section would i put it in? (hobby? small business?) Thanks

  • Answer:

You are talking about reporting the income, but realistically, there will be expenses you incur to make that income. You made $40. I'm assuming that is the amount of money they physically sent you. OK, so how much does it cost you to access the internet? What portion of that belongs to the business? How much does your computer cost (note you don't deduct computers - CCA only)? Etc, etc. At the end of the day, your $40 could very easily turn into a negative amount. If that business was really a hobby, since you're just doing it for fun, and have no intention of making a profit, you wouldn't be able to claim losses on that against your other income..
