How to find out if i owe back taxes?

How do I find out what I owe to Canada in taxes?

  • I have dual Canadian/us citizenship. I left Canada in 2003 and have been in the US since. I plan on moving back to Canada this year. I realized that due to family circumstances and young forgetfulness that I did not file my 2003 taxes with Canada. It was my first year working and I probably made under 5K. How do I get this squared away? I don't know who to contact and how to approach it, but I'd like to be in good standing when I move back to Canada. Thanks!

  • Answer:

You don't need to do anything. There was no requirement to file a tax return in 2003, as you didn't owe any money. When you come back to Canada, you are starting fresh.

What Fred said. Also, if you want, you can still file a 2003 tax return. It would only cover the part of the year up to when you moved to the USA. The 2003 tax return forms are on the CRA website. Their contact info is there as well, if you want to call general enquiries and find out where you stand with them. www.cra-arc.gc.ca
