Freelance Writing and Online Revenue: How much tax do I pay?
-
I'm making money online with freelance writing and ad revenue. I'm a student, and it's unlikely I'll make $5000 a year, if that. My understanding is if I earned 100 dollars, I'll end up paying 15% of that in taxes when I file? Is this right? I pay less if I don't self-employ myself because of my low income. Do I still have to pay 15% even if I don't have a high income. It seems kind of unfair to tax 15% of my income when I don't actually operate a business or make above the poverty line. I'm in college if that alters things.

Answer:
$5000 is below the personal non-refundable tax credit of $10400, so you will not owe taxes.
