If you have more than one job do u still get your tax back?
-
so i am hoping to get more jobs when i finish my last year at school. I have some jobs in mind but they are only part time with not many shifts and therefore am going to work 3 jobs. job one = 21 hours per week = $18, 720 per year job 2 = 20hours = $18,720 per year job 3 - 4hours =3, 328 per year total = $40,768 per year i dont get how i will be taxed. do they just look at each job individually or everything as a total? am i better off doing just 2 jobs and why? because i get under $40000 per year per job does that mean i will get all of my tax back? toals 45hours

Answer:
Yes, as per the previous answer. You can only claim the tax free threshold with one employer. The other two will take tax out at a flat rate. This may mean that your total taxable income doesn't equate to the total tax that ended up being taken out ie more got taken than was needed. In this event, yes, when you put in yout tax return they see that and give you a refund of the extra. And yes, be aware of "bracket creep" once you go into the next "tax bracket" the tax rate increases. So it may not be worth the extra hours if nearly half goes in tax (but that's your choice of course).

Due to the total income earnt in that year, you will have to make a tax payment, sorry. However this is not affected by the number of jobs you have. The ATO like to collect information on all workers, however and they do this through the taxation form that employers ask employees to fill out. You will have to fill out one for each employer. On this form, it will ask you question such as "would you like to claim tax-free threshold for this job?" tick yes for job number 3 (as you have earnt less than $8,000). It will also ask you if this is your second job, tick yes for job number 2 or 1 as they are earn equally as much. Lastly, as the Australian financial year ends 30 June and you've listed annual income. Your first income tax will approximately be half of these amounts. Which should reduce your tax payment.
