Am I allowed to supplement my NYS U.I. benefit?

How long does it take to get the family tax benefit supplement after lodging your tax return?

  • I have lodged my tax return with e-tax and got it back within a week (surprisingly). I rang Centrelink to ask about the family tax benefit supplement for families and their children, the operator told me I would receive it after my tax was lodged and my notice of assessment had come in the mail. I've done and received my assessment. so how long till I receive the supplement for my child and the family?

  • Answer:

Generally, centrelink should have your income 14 days from the date on your tax notice of assessment. It will take 2 days to arrive in bank account once centrelink recieve's your income details, however if you are a customer of the child support agency there may be delay as centrelink need to confirm that you do not have any outstanding debts with child support/ATO before releasing the supplements, if your registered with online services, just log on daily and click on 'your payment' and you will be able see your supplement payment once it has been processed www.centrelink.gov.au

I think the ATO have 14 days to give Centrelink the info after you have received it, but i would go in and see them with your NOA and i believe if you get a nice person eager to help then they are able to request the info from the ato, and once they get it, it takes 2 days to show in you bank account. My partner did his tax 5 weeks ago, and the noa has only finally been issued today, he also did his with e-tax, so you were extremely lucky to get it back so fast.

The family tax benefit used to be included in your tax as a deduction. It has now changed from 2009. http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content.asp?doc=/content/00180055.htm You need to contact the Family Assistance Office and get through there. It is not provided by Centrelink either. However, they should have been able to tell you about the change to the Family Assistance Office instead of sending you to the wrong place. It is on the ATO web site. This is the FAO web site for getting the benefit and they are listed on the right hand side. http://www.familyassist.gov.au/ Good Luck!!!
