How does the mobility scheme work?

Paying a mobility allowance settlement?

  • My dad has passed away and i recieved a letter from mobility allowance offering me as next of kin a settlement offer to pay the car off. Mobility allowance is a dept of work and pensions scheme that allows those on disability benefits to buy a car and the mobility allowance pays the car out right but instead of a car dealer finance the social security will have a hire purchase agreement with you. my dad paid 100 per month since may 2007 and the outstanding settlement offer is 1755. it states on the letter its an offer of agreement to pay in full but would they allow me to continue monthly payments? its a large amount of money which i simply dont have to hand.

  • Answer:

Hi I would think there chasing payment because your fathers paments towards the vehicle has stopped. I would contact them and explain that there is no money in your fathers estate to settle of the debt and explain the circumstances. I am aware that if your dad had a car on the main motability scheme (ie a brand new one) they give you 2 weeks notice and then you hand the vehicle back. I cant foresee Motability Operations pursuing you for the debt , if they try to suggest that you take over the payments, simply refuse. It sound as though your dad has paid over 50% of the vehicle so if all else fails, you can still hand the car back. hope this helps

motability shouldve been informed that ur dad has passed away and when, they will require a copy of the death certificate, and they will arrange for the car to be collected. you shouldnt have to pay anything and there is certainly no debt unless u have not informed them

You need to contact them or your mother does and say "your father has passed away" i think they will forgive the debt but i cannot be sure
