How to get NIN in UK?

  • Hello! I'm Latvian but for already six months i live in UK. My parents still live in Latvia for now, but they got a business registered in UK some months ago. Now they need to get a national insurance number, and to get that they need to set an appointment in job centre, but as i found out today they can't do that because they aren't in UK yet - so they have to actually be in UK already to do that. They already bought plane tickets and will be in UK in september for three days. Im wondering is there some other useful things they could do by that time in UK which would speed up the process or make it easier? By now we are thinking that they will have to come to UK one more time to get this done. Chris

    I'm no expert but I cannot see that they will be given an NI number as they do not live here. Having a business registered here means nothing. Why do they want a NI number are they going to pay the contributions here? Check again with the jobcentre, they might have a wasted journey.

We do not allocate temporary register numbers or National Insurance numbers to people who are not resident or working in the country. Getting a number does NOT generate any entitlements, you living in UK has no relevance to their terms. As far as the UK state is concerned these people do not exist. The business that has been registerd will be a separate legal entity.
