Do I charge VAT to a S.Africa based company?
-
We are a UK based company buying products from Italy (import tax and vat therefore already paid) and then reselling the goods to a South African company. They are paying us from a UK bank to our UK bank. So, do we charge them VAT? I'm guessing not but I wanted to be sure. Thanks.

Answer:
You can zero rate the sales to the South African company but you must be able provide evidence of export. Download VAT notice 703 from www.hmrc.gov.uk which gives the various proofs of export that might be acceptable depending upon the goods sold and the methods of shipping.
