Can i claim my petrol back on my own?

How do i re claim my petrol back and when can i do this?

  • I work as a home carer and i don't get petrol allowance off my employer.Im using up to £40pw and i was wondering how much of this i can claim back, when i can claim it back and how i can claim it back

  • Answer:

Difficult one this. Firstly your employer should be paying you a mileage allowance. You would then not be taxed on this. Milage allowances vary from 15 pence per mile up to 45 pence per mile. If you are employed, as opposed to selfnemployed, you can not claim your petrol against tax. So its up to your employer to pay you a mileage allowance.
