What are the 16+ working hours?

How will working 16 hours a week affect child & working tax?

  • I'm applying for part time jobs so I am able to look after my daughter alongside working. My husband works full time and due to him only bringing in a low income due to wages, we get a little help from child & working tax. When I start work how will me working 16 hours a week affect this? If offered, i am willing to work up to 20 hours but for childcare reasons that is the most I am able to work. Thanks for any help :)

    There are too many variables to give a specific answer but basically you will be allowed more because you are doing more hours and some - if not all - of that extra will be deducted because have a higher income ! As you’re both working 16hrs or more you could also apply for childcare costs?

if u start working i dont think u will be any better off as your household income will be higher. to find out exactly go to the tax credit website there u will find a calculator that u can put yr info in and it will calculate what ur entitled to. enter the figures with u not working and then working 16 hrs and see the difference. u will probably be entitled to childcare costs if ur both working but it has to be with a registered nursery /childminder and u have to produce receipts if your income is not that much higher u may prefer to continue looking after yr children yourself.

As we all know WTC and CTC is anything but simple All I can suggest is that you do the 'mock' online form and see what that gives you for a result Simply put 'Working Tax Credit' into a search in the HMRC website You could also phone them but then they take forever to answer
