Answer:
You may be prosecuted, you may be asked to pay a penalty as an alternative to prosecution, your benefit may be reduced or withdrawn and you will be asked to repay the overpaid benefit If you are not entitled to claim housing benefits (or any other benefit) do not claim. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/BenefitFraud/DG_10035820 http://www.tameside.gov.uk/benefits/fraud#t2

Do it, go on, we love these cases. Your employer notifies us of your earnings and tax and NI. Our lovely shiny NPS system actually does work and does correlate claims and earnings. Minimum we will claw it back with interest and probably a penalty charge. If you accept the penalty we would stop there. Btw - we "check now & process later" so we will check before paying you as well.

If you're not entitled to benefits then you're not entitled to benefits you can't just lie to get more money. My fiancé was really seriously injured in afghanistan and we get no benefits at all.

There is a huge crackdown on benefit fraud and you'd probably have to show recent payslips anyway and proof of savings and any other income.. Jail is appropriate in my opinion, because it is the tax payer, like me, that you are stealing from
you could wind up in the Dungeon at the Tower of London chained to a wall and be forever forbidden to ever get housing benefits again

Depending on the amounts in question, a custodial sentence is a possibility if you're overpaid by quite a lot. Either way, you'll very likely have to pay the amounts back, and the overpayments add up very quickly. It's not worth it, just don't.
Repayment and Community Service, probably.. The Law is clamping down on Housing Benefit thieves because there aren't enough people working to pay off the Country's debts and give handouts to people who slightly exaggerate the truth, without getting us into more of a mess than we're in already..
