What's national income?

Oh what is income tax and National Insurance? Whats this for?

  • If I was earning £14000 a year how much would I get monthly after income tax and National Insurance? Would I still haave to pay council tax on top of this? I'm a single guy soon to be living on my own.

    well i get about £1,100 monthly after tax,etc. i have to pay £90 per month on council tax (Edinburgh) on a tiny one bedroom flat. and that is after my 25% single persons reduction! edit; a thought- as you are on £14000 per year,apply to the inland revenue for working tax credit relief. i was on £14000 in my last job and i got about £50 per month back in my wages(from taxes) and also got free prescriptions and dental treatment!.you can apply online,just go to inland revenue

You will have to pay council tax but you will recieve a discount for living on your own. Lets face facts mate once youve paid your rent and council tax you wont have a pot to p1ss in, get another job, tis my advise.

Your take home pay would be about £950 pm. You get a 25% discount on your Council Tax. Income Tax goes to the Governement to fund the War, NIC also goes to the Government to fund your pension (or rather mine now as Im older than you I expect) and your Council Tax goes on schools and emptying dustbins. Don't forget your Water Rates, which are for.....water!

I am single female earning £10500 per year it works out around £175 per week take home pay and off of that I pay £56 rent £22 council tax per week=£88 which leaves me £86 to pay all my other bills and food and travel to and from work each week. That includes a single person discount on the council tax.
